Need to make spelling more appealing to your students? I have created 6 spelling games suitable for 'Syllables and Affixes Stage' of 'Words Their Way' (Spelling Program). I teach students in grade 3 but it would be appropriate for students from grades 2 - 6.
It's a great way to differentiate your spelling program while making it fun for the students. Check out my spelling games for 'Upper Elementary' where I have also created 6 games for 'Derivational Relations Stage' (Words Their Way Spelling Program).
The 6 games cover the following spelling concepts:
* Silence Please - silent letters - kn, gn, wr, ough, wh, h (honor), t (listen), g (sign), h (rhythm)
* Trouble with L - words ending in the L sound eg. el (label), le (table), il (pencil), al (loyal)
*What's the Rule? - identifying the rule for adding 'ed' and 'ing' eg. e-drop, double, nothing
*Which is it: 'ar' or 'er'? - identifying if the word ends with ar (collar), or (doctor), er (teacher)
*Collect Four - students must collect a set of four for the following prefixes - pre, re, mis, un, dis, mis, un, ex
* Happily Ever After - collect a set of four words with the endings - ey, y, ily, er, est, ie, ly
It's a great way to spend 15 - 20 minutes doing something educationally worthwhile.
I've made the game boards bright and colorful to make it appealing to the students but I have also created a black and white version if you prefer to save your colored ink.
