This is a comprehensive 12-week spelling lesson plan with worksheets for different grade levels (grades 3-5). Accompanying each week’s spelling list words are paintings from the Victorian era which is the vehicle by which new vocabulary is introduced. Words such as “petticoats”, “britches”, “carriage” etc. are included along with more common words.
This package includes charts to write out words, definitions and parts of speech, etymology of words, prefixes and suffixes to change the words, homonyms, synonyms and antonyms as well as rhyming words. With each week’s list is a creative writing assignment. It gives the students practice in poetry, descriptive writing, making inferences, persuasive writing and expository writing.
The paintings also offer an opportunity to discuss the differences in the time periods. Perhaps, such things as clothing and lifestyles can be compared and contrasted.
