This quick mini-lesson / activity has students hunting through their reading material to find examples of plural nouns and trying to decide what the spelling rule is that applies.
As a class, these examples are shared, discussed and then a chart is completed together that organizes the words into four main spelling rules groups. There is a blank chart as well as a chart that already has the rules labeled in addition to a teacher 'cheat sheet'.
This is a great way for students to discover spelling rules in a more meaningful and interesting way!
I also have a matching 'Grammar Hunt' activity sheet to use to learn about conventions.
