This 10 page packet includes sight word spelling and reading games for the second set of carefully selected high frequency words every ESL and native English reader must know. These reproducible games:
-take minutes to make, are easy to store, and are simple to use.
-do not need monitoring with simple rules and high student motivation.
-are child-centered and increase listening, oracy, and pronunciation.
-can be used as center, small group, partner, rainy day recess, and family activities
-include quick assessment lists for differentiated instruction, monitoring progress, and conferencing.
-include homework spelling sheets for continued practice at home and family involvement.
-May be used with homogeneous groups. Although a student cannot win without correctly reading each word, the best reader does not always cross the finish line first, which makes it fun for all.
The Complete High Frequency Sight Words game boards progress sequentially through 142 words from easiest to most difficult with each of the 14 game boards. Students progressively master game board 1 in reading then progress to game board 2... When Level 1 is mastered, Level 2 has 14 more games. When reading is perfected, they learn to spell these same words using the spelling board game.
Students learn from each other. If a student mispronounces a word, he or she must park on the side of the word and listen as other students land on the word and pronounce it correctly. When their turn comes around again, they get another chance to say the word correctly. Each word appears 1-3 times on the board, so there are multiple chances to hear, read, and say the words correctly. These activities offer students a chance to independently learn all their word wall words while you have guided reading groups or other literacy activities. It can be used as a "can do" or "must do" activity during literacy time.
The Complete High Frequency Sight Word Program includes 1,000 high frequency words in English appropriate for grades k-8. The same program is available in Spanish for bilingual classes.
