Every week, I do a spelling rule with my 6th graders. I give them the rule, and have them use Google to find words that fit the rule. I love that they are learning to research and use Google searches to find what they're looking for. I feel this is a much more valuable skill than giving them lists of words to memorize. It really makes them think about the rule, as they have to make sure they are finding words that fit the rule (we all know the English language is full of exceptions!
I love using these worksheets for subs, as the instruction is simple and the kids are independent. They do require that students have access to Google searches. These worksheets would be too difficult for students to brainstorm on their own. However, maybe they could work with a group to brainstorm some ideas before Googling!
I will be adding new spelling rules soon, but here are the first three! You will receive PDFs as well as links to live Google Docs.
