I designed these task cards because I was looking for a way my students could start connecting the spelling rules I was teaching them in small group, with their classroom spelling, writing and reading.
I am a certified academic language therapist and my students come to see me everyday for 45 min. I discovered over the years a disconnect between what they were learning in my class and their classroom work.
Students bring these spelling rule task cards to my class everyday – I add a new one to the ring once we have introduced a new rule. They also carry the ring of task cards back to their classroom and keep them – in sight – on the side of their desk hanging on a hook.
Read what customers who have purchased this product are saying:
"I know my students are going to love having these handy dandy rings as reference tools. Haven't decided if I'll have sets for small group work only or if I'll make everyone a set. Can't wait to use them!"
"Thank you for the cards! Using as mini anchor charts in notebooks."
The rules on these cards are the sounds in the English language which have multiple spellings in initial (first), medial (middle) and/or final(last) positions in a word.
These are the sound students must be thoughtful about when spelling. The task cards remind them to be thoughtful when writing, reading and spelling in their classroom work.
The classrooms at my school also hang large spelling rule posters in their rooms, however; we are finding the students accessing these spelling rules when working more consistently with their task cards. The large posters are perfect for whole group instruction and introduction of each of these rules. The task cards have helped students connect, learn and apply these rules in their daily work.
I hope you enjoy seeing your students make these connections, too! It is exciting watching your students become forever spellers!!
