I created Spelling SMART to be used on a SMARTBoard or interactive whiteboard to meet the spelling needs of my Grade 3 and 4 students. However, due to some requests, I have made this PowerPoint version for folks who do not have a SMARTBoard interactive whiteboard.
I noticed many of my students could not spell high frequency words. I also wanted them to use these lessons to learn how to write good sentences with varied beginnings and lengths, and of different types. The idea for dress-ups and sentence starters came from Betty Wiebe's Blended Structure and Style in Writing program. I also wanted the students to attempt some figurative language. Slide 38 is a list for the sentence ideas.
Each week, I tried to use the student's names in the sample sentences. I also created a few sentences with the class to model my thinking out loud.
Teacher pages (39 - 41) can be used with students (The samples are all student generated during the spelling work).
There are 34 lessons, one for each week of school. They are fully editable and include the High Frequency Words #1 - 500.
Use the Neat Work slide to model how to complete the assignments neatly.
I created these for my students, please feel free to change the Canadian content to suit you.
