In my classroom, I give weekly spelling sentences that are due on the day before the Spelling test (usually Thursday). I started at the beginning of the year counting and keeping my own tally sheet (messy) to figure out their score. Then, I thought there had to be a better way.
Introducing a rubric to be used especially for Spelling Sentences!
All I do is check each sentence and mark a tally in the column for the error that the students made. Then, at the end I count up how many they missed, subtract it from the total, and get their final grade.
This way it makes the students more accountable for their work and gives their parents a way to see what their child needs to work on for the next time.
