These sound spelling cards can be a tremendous help for beginning readers and writers to connect sounds and spelling. They can be used in either direction (1. Student knows the sound and needs to figure out how to spell it, or 2. Student sees it in a word and needs to figure out the sound). When using these in the classroom, I push students to also think about what looks right when figuring out how to spell a word. For example: What looks like a word they have seen before, "pie" or "pigh"?
The sounds are categorized by the following colors:
Orange - Short Vowels
Black - Consonant
Red - Long Vowels
Blue - Diagraphs
Yellow - R-Controlled Vowels
Green - Vowel Teams
This package includes:
- 3 x 8 inch and 8.5 x 11 page size labels for each of the above mentioned categories
- Sound cards for each consonant of the alphabet, short and long vowels, digraphs, r-controlled vowels and vowel teams
- Student spelling card (an 8.5 x 11 sheet that contains each image compressed to 1 page) - a sample is found in the preview.
