This product is part of the Spelling That Makes Sense spelling program for grades K-5th. A HUGE part of learning to spell is learning the SYMBOLS that represent the sounds we've been saying for many years. Often, students are taught the alphabet, but when there are 26 letters in the alphabet, but 44 sounds in the English language we know there won't be a one-to-one correspondence. The solution is to teach students the SOUNDS of the English language, the symbols that represent them and letter combinations that can also represent sounds.
Sounds to symbols teaches students by pointing out that letters have NAMES and they have SOUNDS. Each sound also has a kinesthetic method to help them commit it to memory. This document also includes helpful tips and explanations for all sounds taught. This is a great resource for Kindergarten, a phenomenal review in 1st grade and a wonderful way to supplement instruction for struggling students in every grade.
Directions for turning these into easy to implement cards is included.
