INCLUDED IN BUNDLE:
Start Your Engines: Spelling Choice Menu
Karate Chop: Vocabulary Choice Menu
Wild West Word Work: Choice Menu
Students have a set number of "items" to obtain. They use a Choice Menu (with different item “values”) to reach the goal.
Students will be working hands-on with ANY spelling/word list (Start Your Engines), ANY vocabulary list (Karate Chop), and ANY informational or fictional text (Wild West Word Work) doing various tasks of varying difficulty. Item "points" are predetermined by difficulty. As they finish a task from the Choice Menu, they record it on a recording/tracking sheet.
Included in EACH CHOICE MENU ACTIVITY:
-Directions/ How I USE it in MY classroom
-Choice Menu with (reusable) tasks of varying difficulty for ANY word list or source
-Tracking Sheet for Students
-Awards for being a “Word Champion” for that theme (racing, karate, wild west) All include a "girl" award and a "boy" award.
I use these as work stations during literacy centers and a “go to activity” when children have finished other work. I have even sent them home as weekly homework activities.
The great thing, as with any Choice Menu, is this can be used over and over with different words associated with the tasks.
My students seem to really enjoy these menus and I have seen enthusiasm when able to choose what they can do with word lists!
I have learned from using choice menus that my students perform and try to do their best when they are able to have a choice and “direct” their own learning!
Please also check out my Dictionary Dig Choice Menu, which is a fun way to to cover ELA concepts while investigating and practicing dictionary skills:
