An absolute core segmentation activity in my phonics lessons! Great for phonemic awareness and to apply/practise our weekly phonemes.
Print and laminate this elkonin boxes page (one per child) and get the kids to use whiteboard markers. Say a decodable word and ask the children to break the word apart and write down the graphemes. Then they can rewrite the blended word. I ask them to hold it up when they have finished so I can check instantly if they have spelt it right. They can rewrite it on the laminate or sometimes my kids write it in their phonics pads.
I've put six on one page as I generally do a quick spelling test revision of six words. You can differentiate by having different groups of students do different words at the same time.
This is my first upload so please leave me feedback if this is product is helpful for your students :)
Enjoy and inspire,
