Description

Practice Sequencing! Use Context Clues! Enjoy a Rebus! This guided reading rebus is an INFORMATIONAL TEXT about spiders! Also get differentiated TESTS and a writing PROMPT for the rebus!

This CLUES-in-CONTEXT lesson about spiders starts with students reading a short rebus. But they can't complete this reading passage until they place eight words found below word pictures into the rebus correctly. This exercise can be done on paper, on an iPad, or in a web-based classroom!

Once the rebus is complete, you can give students one of three differentiated tests to gauge their reading comprehension. Finally, students can work on completing a related creative writing prompt that helps them interact with what they've read.

In a traditional classroom: Print the rebus. Students can cut out the words below each word picture and attach them to the correct boxes. Once they’re done and have read their rebus, they can take a quick quiz over the material. Depending on a student’s ability, you can choose to give them one of three differentiated tests. For students who quickly finish these tasks, a creative writing prompt has been included.

In a traditional classroom with iPads: Using the Teachers Pay Teachers Easel platform, which is available to all teachers, this download becomes an iPad activity for a literature or science lesson. Use Easel to send students the pages that you want them to complete.

Then students can access the rebus, quiz, or writing prompt on their iPads. To work on the rebus, they can move the words below each word picture to the appropriate gray rectangle and then send you the assignment. They can mark the quiz and submit it, and respond to the writing prompt and submit it. It’s that simple.

Web-based classroom: Once again, using TPT’s Easel program, and once you’ve assigned the sheets students need to complete, students can move the words beneath word pictures directly into the correct rebus boxes, mark the correct answers on the quiz, and respond to the writing prompt. Then they can submit each assignment to you.

Answer key: The answer key, which is the completed rebus and test, is found at the end of the download.

This curriculum works great in literature circles and with whole classes. In addition to helping students place a mixture of words in the context of a story and in the right sequence, this informational reading passage teaches about spiders.

Do you want another free rebus? Take a look at the rebus in the free Simple Literature Book Club download. A new rebus replaces the old rebus in this download at least four times a year.
