We all know that practicing sight words
is a must, but that reinforcing can soon become tedious and quite boring.
With that in mind, I turned the task into a game
, tossed in a few giggles, laced it with imagination and came up with Spin & Read, which my kiddos actually beg to play!
The fun comes in with HOW you read the words
, as I've included 24, "voice choice cards"
can be played with a partner, (great for Daily 5), in a small group
, or with the entire class
The packet includes an alphabetical, Dolch word list for Pre-Primer through 3rd grades
, plus the Dolch list of nouns
Using a pencil and paperclip on their worksheet
, children spin
to see how many words they will read, then choose a voice choice card, to see how they will read the words.
Voice choice cards have to do with the volume
that they use: soft, loud, whisper . . .
or the rate: fast, slow
; or the emotion: happy, sad, silly, scared ...
or the sound: deep and low, squeaky falsetto, spooky, baby talk, old lady . . .
After their turn, another child spins their spinner and reads from their list of words.
The beauty here is, that even if you're playing as an entire class, each child is reading from a list of words that they need practice on
The packet also includes:
* 3 voice choice posters
to hang up
* A list of other sight word review games
* A list of links
for Online sight word games & activities.
The voice choice cards serve double-duty as you can use them for any word list too.
I'm Diane from Teach With Me, hoping your kiddos beg to play the Voice Choice Spin & Read game, as much as mine do!
