Do your students need help reading and writing sight words with fluency and automaticity? This activity is a fun, engaging way to practice. All you will need to create a year-long center are the handouts in this packet. My first graders love the Spin-a-Sight-Word Center. Each week, I put a new list of words in the center tub. The words increase in difficulty as the year progresses. In order to increase the novelty and level of engagement, I ordered plastic spinners to allow students to manipulate something besides dice (which can get boring if overused). This center can be used with dice, however, if you don't have access to spinners which have the numbers 1 through 6. Students spin the spinner and write the word above the line each time. They can see which word "wins!" On the back of the paper, I make sure that students play "blackout" so that they are getting the much-needed practice writing and reading the sight words throughout a fifteen-minute center increment. This packet includes all Dolch sight words from the Pre-Primer through the 2nd grade lists. Words are grouped on each page in a logical fashion that increases in level of difficulty and provides teachers with an easy means of keeping organized. With these lists, the teacher can differentiate easily and assign specific lists to students to provide each child with perfect practice.
