While working on order of operations in math class, it became clear that my students needed more practice working on exponents. This game was introduced as a way to help them practice in a small group and work collaboratively. Students spin an exponent and check their work with a calculator. Students recorded their work on the sheet so that they could check with a a partner and I could review it later to check accuracy and procedure. Students had a lot of fun playing this game during centers. Print, add die (dice), pencils, paperclips, and a calculator or calculator app, and voila you have a center that is fun and engaging!
Directions for the two versions of the game are included for students to read and review as they work in the center.
Roll a base number, spin an exponent, solve, and check.
Base number is 10, spin for the exponent, roll the die(dice) for a number to multiply, solve, and check.
This activity can be easily modified by using 1 or more die.
