Spinning the wheel is a fun activity for children. But this is not just a game!
While playing this game young children will get
• to develop their reasoning, comparison, and visual discrimination skills by matching the full colored picture to its outline.
• pay attention to details in matching pictures.
• practice one to one correspondence while matching pictures
• learn about facial expressions! How do you think the butterflies feel?
The activity is intended for preschool but it can be used with older or even younger children as well according to individual capabilities or needs. It fits perfectly in a Montessori classroom and can also be used by Special Education and homeschooling.
Although it seems to be just a very simple, easy matching exercise it is actually not as easy as it looks. The only difference the butterflies have is their facial expression.
Children spin the wheel using the arrow. When the arrow stops, children find the matching colored butterfly to the outlined butterfly on the spinner and they place it on their card. The first to complete the card with all the butterflies is the winner!
