Use along with the book Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano
This is a wonderful book for celebrating uniqueness and differences!

Page 2-5 PICTURE CARDS FOR SEQUENCING and child involvement.
Before I read the book the first time, I ask the children to look at the cover.
What do you think the story will be about?
What do you notice about this pumpkin?
Have any of you ever been to a pumpkin patch?
Let’s make some predictions about the story.
Teacher can then chart some of their predictions.
Do a KWL about pumpkins and the pumpkin patch to see what they already know.
Page 6-10 WHERE IS SPOOKLEY?
Positional Word Posters Includes: Next to, Behind, On top of, In front of, Inside
These can be used whole group, one on one, or in a small group. Teacher asks questions and children find the poster that shows Spookley in that position. You can also show a poster and ask the child/children to TELL YOU where Spookley is.
Page 11-18 I HAVE WHO HAS GAME CARDS WITH CHARACTERS/SITUATIONS FROM THE BOOK
Pass out the cards and you can start with the first card. Children read their cards and put them in order when their turn comes. You can use the pocket chart, or sit in a big circle and lay them out on the floor.

Although some of the printable activities may be too difficult for pre-k, I included it because there are lots of pocket chart, patterning, and whole group materials that I know I would use in a pre-k setting.
