For my 7th graders I called this "Passing Notes". We used a "spooky poem" to communicate our thoughts and ideas about particular words or phrases that stood out to them. This activity is done without any verbal communication! I read it aloud to them first. Then we read the poem together in unison. The 3rd time I read it aloud and they highlighted 4-5 words or phrases that stood out to them. We then passed notes using the right side of the worksheet.
