What is it?
Spooky Speaking: Impromptu Lesson and Activity is resource that gives students strategies for impromptu speaking and practice in both small and large group settings. The lesson is designed to last approximately two 40-minute classes. The theme is Halloween. It’s a fun lesson for the Halloween holiday!
Why does it work?
Students will be highly engaged as active participants in the lesson. They will gain confidence by practicing strategies, or “tricks,” in small groups to build up to large group practice. By nature, these speeches are entertaining and often funny. In a low-stakes environment, students will master important ELA speaking skills and have a fun time doing it.
What's included?
Impromptu Speech Tricks & Tips PowerPoint: This presentation has four strategies and guided practice for whole class and small group learning. It is Halloween themed to be used during the holiday. The content text boxes are editable.
Impromptu speech topics: The download includes 48 impromptu speech topics related to Halloween.
Blank speech cards: Blank speech topic cards are included to write in your own topics.
Impromptu Speech Rubric: A rubric is included to use for large group impromptu speeches.
Teacher Use Notes: Detailed descriptions of use and PowerPoint Notes are included.
