This life-skills math and literacy product is one of the individual stores from Economics of Shopping: Functional Literacy and Math bundle. It contains one of the stores contained in the larger bundle. If you would like more than one store, check out the Economics of Shopping product for a bundle of 5 stores (including this one) and the same types of activities designed for each one.
This product includes 2 ad flyers for sporting goods stores that can be used with task cards with and without picture cues for finding prices and writing checks for single items, worksheets for check writing for multiple item purchases, worksheets for using cash to make purchases of multiple items, worksheets that ask students to read relevant information on the sales flyer, and worksheets to make single-item purchases with a debit card.
It includes 2 differentiated flyers that are identical but have different prices. There is one flyer with prices with no change and one with prices with change.
There are 28 task cards that can be used with any of the differentiated flyers from the store. Ten task cards ask students to write in the price of a single item from a flyer with a picture cue. Another 10 are identical to the first set but do not include picture cues. And finally, another 8 task cards require the student to write a check to make a single-item purchase. An answer key for the task cards is included for finding prices, but not for check writing.
Print and Go Worksheets for Reading
: There are 2 different worksheets requiring students to answer basic questions about the store flyer. For instance, a student must identify the item number for a specific item or indicate which item has a limit of how many of the item can be bought on sale. There are 2 versions of each worksheet—one with a word bank and one without. Each of these can be used with any of the store versions. An answer key is provided.
Print and Go Worksheets for Check Writing:
There are 5 worksheets requiring students to total the amount needed to purchase 2 to 3 items from the flyer. The student must then write a check for the purchase amount and determine a new balance in the checkbook register. Each worksheet can be used with either of the 2 flyers. An answer key is provided but I have not included the check writing in the answer key, although the required information (e.g., total amount, store name) is included.
Print and Go Worksheets for Multi-Item Purchases Using Cash:
There are 5 worksheets requiring students to total the amount needed to purchase 2 to 3 items from the flyers. The student then must circle the bills that could be used for the purchase and determine the amount of change that would be received based on giving a clerk a set amount to buy the items. An answer key is included.
Print and Go Worksheets for Debit Cards:
Finally there is 1 worksheet in which students answer 10 questions. For each question they are given a debit card balance and asked if they can purchase a specific item from the store. Again, each worksheet can be used with either of the flyers.. An answer key is included.
