Product Description
Your students will be engaged with these easy-to-prepare games as they learn 24 new character traits and synonyms (6 sets of 4 synonyms ranging from easy to challenging). Game ideas will address several learning styles. This word work will gradually release them into practice, assessment and application that are Common Core State Standards aligned. Continued exposure to these words will ensure that your students will understand them while reading and be able to use them in their writing.

This Packet has a Sports Theme and Contains ...

*Two Games*
. “Which Character is ...?” - During this game students use sports illustrations as clues to judge the character trait that belongs with the correct picture. This is a great game for your ESL students or visual learners.
. The second game is a matching game where students compare the 24 character trait synonyms they just learned.

*Word Wall*
. The 24 character trait synonyms are written 2 to a page with 4 different sports ball borders.
. A sign that reads “Reach Your Goal With This Word Wall.” This can be enlarged if needed.

*Practice*
. A 2-page sports themed practice sheet (can be double-sided) asks students to compare the words by finding a definition and writing an antonym.
. Another 2-page sports themed practice sheet gives the students one of the character traits and asks the student to write a synonym and then use the new word in a sentence that demonstrates understanding. Students are allowed to look them up if needed.

*Assessment*
A one-page assessment asks students to write a synonym and a sentence.

*Application*
. Students use their new knowledge of character traits as they apply it to reading. The first generic graphic organizer asks students to analyze a character’s thoughts, words and actions and to then conclude 4 different traits and write a specific example from the text for each one.
. The second generic graphic organizer will give the teacher another choice of reading and writing application and is similar to the above. Students analyze one character by giving 3 different traits. Each trait is proven with two examples from the text.
