Are you ready for some football? Or basketball? Or baseball? No matter which one is your favorite, this Escape Room about sports is the perfect solution! They will have such fun and practice skills at the same time!

An Escape room is a puzzle game in which students solve riddles and puzzles and find clues to finish tasks. In this Escape Room students solve puzzles to open locked boxes.

NOTE: This Escape Room resource is available in a money-saving bundle!

Escape Room Mega Bundle

For the first task, students will have a word search puzzle to complete. After finding all the sports related words students will use the leftover letters to spell three words. The words they form will spell the lock code for Box 1.

For the second task, students will complete a set of six math problems and match the answers to answer/letter cards. When placed in the correct order with correct answers the letters will spell a word. This word clue will send the team to find a “Sports News Show” poster that fits that clue.

For the third task, students will move team pieces around a coordinated grid football field in order to score points. After completing four “quarters” a final score will lead them to the poster of a sports news shows and there they will find the lock code for the last box.

BUT there is MORE! You can opt to add three sports tasks at the end of the unlock the box tasks. This means students keep a scorecard as they open each locked box and they add to these scores as they compete in basketball, football, and baseball competitions that you set up. Don’t worry the setup is super easy!

Believe it or not- there is MORE! A STEM Challenge is included in this resource! The challenge, Build a Foosball Model, is part of this package. The STEM file includes a 3 page teacher's guide, lab sheet with sample answers, scoring rubric, constraints page, and photos. The challenge forms are also editable.

So, what do you need? You will need three number locks for this quest. Directions are included to use this set without these locks! You will also need three boxes. This can be a plastic or metal tool box, but any box will work- even a cardboard box! Directions and photos are included for how to set up the boxes and locks or how to use a version without locks. You do not need 3 boxes and 3 locks per group! It’s three boxes and three locks for the entire class.

Included in the Escape Room file of this resource, you will find:

  • table of contents
  • 4 pages of tips and tricks for setting up everything
  • For Box 1- 2 pages of teacher directions, sports word search puzzle and answer key, and the box labels
  • For Box 2- 2 pages of teacher directions, student directions cards, math page, Sports News Show poster, and box labels
  • For Box 3 – 2 pages of teacher directions, Grid directions, Football field grid, answer keys, Sports News show poster, and box labels.
  • hint cards for each task
  • an alternative locking system (made of paper)
  • Sports Task section
  • STEM Challenge basic information section
  • certificates to award students completing the task
  • extra Sports News Show posters to make this more challenging
  • black and white versions of all posters and pages provided in color.
  • File 2 contains editable version of the Escape Room forms- including Task 2 directions, the sign-up pages for each box, the student score cards, and the sports task competition cards.

YOUR PREP includes: printing box labels, printing 3 posters, printing and copying the three student tasks, and printing any of the extras you want to use. I do suggest laminating some of the items. One of the student tasks must be cut apart. Prep should take at least 30 minutes.

Check the preview to see everything!

One more thing to note: The Escape Room event can be completed in 45-60 minutes with the use of the Sports Tasks. The addition any of the suggested STEM Challenges will add an extra class session of at least 45 minutes.
