I use literacy centers during my guiding reading workshop. While most of the class is engaged in independent reading, I'll open two or three centers for independent practice.
Included in this product, you will find:
1.) Commas - students rewrite sentences by inserting commas
2.) Word Study: Roots - students sort words according to their roots (aero, graph and chron). Students use dictionaries to define unknown words.
3.) Parts of Speech - I included many options in this section to help you best meet the needs of your students. Students sort nouns, verbs, adjectives (for those who need a review), prepositions, conjunctions and interjections. There are sorting headers with support and without. I included two types of recording sheets and answer keys. **This center will help students work towards CCSS. This center will help students practice identifying these parts of speech, but the actual CCSS is more complex than that.**
4.) Supporting Evidence - students read a claim and sift through evidence cards to find information to support the claim. Great practice if your students have difficulty finding support for their ideas! 8 cards, recording sheet and answer key included.
5.) Combining Sentences - each card contains two sentences for students to combine. Twelve cards and a recording sheet are included. There is no answer key for this activity.
