Product Description
“Couple o' Pirates Teachin' Ye Rosa Parks” audiobook adventure is a humorous, historical fiction that teaches Rosa Parks and the spark of the Montgomery Bus Boycott like NEVER BEFORE! Two levels for differentiation, two fully produced audiobooks to improve literacy with EASY SCAN QR codes that link directly to YouTube! It's simple for teachers, parents, and students. Can be used as fun reading comprehension, reluctant readers, ELL reading, LD or SPED reading, and or great listening-reading for vision impaired students.

This five-part lesson is PERFECT to send home over spring break! It's fun and the audiobook adventure engages readers for improved learning. This is NOT "pirates reading comprehension" and DOES NOT teach anything about real pirates. However, pirate fans will still enjoy the story while practicing literacy skills and learning about Mrs. Parks.

It's up to two goofball pirates to help a student go back in time by using the internet to learn about Rosa Parks "in person". If they get another F, Mom's going to take away their computer tablet for a month. A month!

This is a five-part story takes students back in time to 1955 with a couple o' pirates through a swirling black hole, otherwise known as the internet. It will engage readers as they learn great facts and lessons about Mrs. Rosa Parks. Includes over 20 literacy activities to help you customize your lesson and teach the common core your students need!

NOT just a fun supplement. This FREE product will teach students a TON about Mrs. Parks by bringing them to Montgomery, Alabama in a fictional setting.

• Kids will learn about segregation through the eyes of the main character as they come across segregated drinking fountains, a restaurant, and of course, the fateful trip toward Cleveland Ave.

• Includes 20+ literacy activities that focus on common core skills. Some are generic on purpose to allow lesson flexibility with your focus.

• Although the humor is a cross between Looney Tunes and Monty Python (thanks to the wacky sounds), you'll find that Mrs. Parks is portrayed as the courageous hero she was without compromise to her character or the bus scene when she makes history. I teamed up with a professional voice actress, Terri Nicole, to ensure Mrs. Parks is given the talent she deserves.

Which literacy activities are included?
Each of the five parts includes:

• Fully produced audiobook with EASY scan QR codes that open YouTube version for free! SUPER EASY for teachers, parents, and students, plus you won't believe the level of engagement!!!

• Make a prediction
• Reading passage + teacher copy (two-sided per part)
• Multiple choice questions, more rigorous than my previous work
• Written answer questions (same questions with lines)
• Mixed questions (4 multiple choice + 4 written answer)
• Summarize the story
• Post story-part writing prompt (different for each part)

Other CCSS activities include:

• Couple o' Pirates BRAIN BREAK featuring characters (2:30 with 30 seconds of true wiggle time)
• Two, two question post-adventure writing prompts
• Extra credit writing prompt (find error in the captain’s description vs. his art)
• Four character trait sheets with black line art for coloring (blank one for student self-picture)
• Four comparing character traits Venn diagram + extra with blank lines for other characters
• Main character traits written activity
• Secondary character traits written activity
• Story structure
• Author’s purpose
• Reflecting back
• Connecting to you
• Making inferences
• Ask the questions
• Story sequence
• Dictionary work (blank lines for six words each page)
• Illustrate the sequence
• Draw a new cover
• Write a new adventure + extra lines writing page
• Favorite and least favorite
• Parent guardian letter home explaini the QR codes as homework

** Not ALL of these include teacher keys because answers will vary. Some of the sheets are purposefully GENERIC to allow flexibility for teacher planning and needs**

**NOTE** The original posting declares 200 pages. Yes, it does have this many pages. However, I failed to mention that many of the literacy activities are direct copies in each file. You can have two sets, or print from a single file. I apologize for the confusion to the first 42 teachers to try this new product. THANK YOU!!!

This file is a TOO LARGE for the TPT free system(10 pg. limit), so it contains a direct GOOGLE LINK for the download from my personal drive. It is a SAFE DOWNLOAD for schools and home computers. There is NOT a virus, not that I could even make one if I wanted.

Meet the Team from Around the World!

• Original artwork by Teresa Venter (South Africa)
• Professional voiceover of Mrs. Parks read by Terri Nicole (Alabama)
• Original pirate score, “Across the Seven Sentences”, by Ofer Appelbaum (Israel)
• Produced, multiple voices by Mister Lewis (Denver)

Level One difficulty is around RS. Great for spring 3rd or struggling 4th. The questions will be too difficult for second and a challenge for third.

Level Two is closer to TUV. Great for 4th or struggling 5th. The questions will be easy for most 5th but they'll enjoy the story and audiobooks. ALL KIDS DO!

For students with lower reading levels, they can STILL enjoy the story as long as the audiobooks are being used. The tough part will be comprehension of bigger vocabulary, but I did my best to build context clues.

Neil Armstrong SEQUEL???: There CAN be a sequel to this adventure with your help! Due to the difficultly and time required, I'm going to hold off until this one reaches 100 feedback reviews, both glows and grows welcome of course. This could take a year, or it could take five. Mister Lewis needs a creative break, but would love to do pirates on the moon...
