Your students are sure to enjoy this fun spring crossword puzzle activity. Research shows the use of crosswords can build verbal skills, as well as build mental sharpness. Working collaboratively with others to solve the puzzles can offer a time of teamwork, a time of building a classroom community, and allow students to learn from others. If you've ever given your students a puzzle, you know they instantly want to start sharing and discussing, which can be an extra bonus. They are perfect for social bonding in your classroom. With that said though, they are also perfect to use as a quiet individual activity. We all need those at times. :-)
In addition to the above benefits, students are also working on vocabulary, spelling, reasoning, context use, and word attack skills. Students need to evaluate choices and draw conclusions. On top of all that.... they are FUN!
NOTE*** To give my word searches a different look, I have used a black fill as the background. Please be aware of this before buying. It might take a tad extra ink when you print the initial one out, but I liked the look and I hope you do too.**
The puzzle comes with a separate word list if you want to give it to students when solving the crossword. The word list prints 3 to a page. If you want to challenge your students, don't provide the word list as they complete the puzzle. Then after they complete the crossword let them get one to check their answers.
It also comes with a fun themed image that students can color if they have extra time. Coloring offers a stress-free time to wind down.
