Spring Edition Expanding Sentences with Picture Clues and Word Banks for Kindergarten and 1st Grade
Students look at picture on the card and read the sentence. Then expand the sentence to give more details and information.
Expanding Sentences consists of 8 Spring Themed “Photos.” There is a short, simple sentence for each photo. Children are encouraged to expand the sentence to make it more interesting, more informative, and help the reader understand.
There are 2 options-
1. Photo and Sentence with a Word Bank- These are 11 by 8.5 (full sheet)
2. Photo and Sentence Only- These are 8.5 by 5 (half sheet)
The cards are large enough that you may choose to print 2 per page to save ink- still large enough to easily see detailed pictures and read sentences.
Depending on the level of your students, sentences may be written by the student or verbalized then written by teacher. If you are working on language, students may just orally expand the sentence.
Differentiate using cards with Word Banks or cards without.
No need for recording sheets, students can write on any kind of paper. Just write the card number, before writing the sentence.
Use in literacy centers or project with Elmo or on SMARTBoard for whole group instruction. I use one per day and project on the SMARTBoard for Morning Work.
Perfect activity for Common Core LK.1F. Produce and expand sentences in shared language activities and L1.1J Produce and expand simple sentences.
