3 engaging games to play with small groups or place in literacy centers to practice sight words, CVC word families, and contractions.
Pg. 2-10 Isn’t Spring Lovely: Print and cut flowers to make cards. Each student gets a flower pot mat. Students take turns drawing a flower card and reading the word. The student who has the matching contraction gets to place the card on their mat. Game play continues until all cards have been distributed.
Pg. 11-19 Digging for Sight Words: Print garden template on light brown cardstock. Print and cut worms. Distribute garden mats. Place worms face down on table. Students use a toy shovel to pick up a worm. If they can read the word on the worm, they get to place it in their garden.
Pg. 20-30 Butterfly Word Families: Print out word family mats. Cut butterfly hats. Distribute word family mats to students. Place butterfly wings in a butterfly net. Students take turns drawing butterfly wings from net and reading the CVC word. The student who has the matching word family/picture gets to place the word on their mat.
