Have fun learning while practicing important literacy skills with these writing centers!
Table of Contents:
Making Words: Students should cut the letters apart from the bottom of the page. Students then use the letters to manipulate and make new words from the letters. Students write their words on the recording sheet. All the letters combine to make the “magic word”. The magic words in order: Sunshine, Springtime, raincoat, butterfly, and gardening. The first time you do this activity, I suggest that you do the making words activity with the students on the board and show them how to make two letter words, then three letter, and more using digraphs and blends.
ABC Order: Cut apart the words and place in a pocket chart. Students then work to put the words in ABC order on their recording sheets.
Cut-a-Sentence: In this center, give students the sentences already cut apart and placed separately in bags/folders. Students sort the words into a correct sentence. Students then write the sentence on the recording sheet beside the picture that matches the picture on the card. For example, if students put together the snail sentence- they write the sentence beside the snail on their recording sheet.
Color by Sight Word: Students color based on which sight words are inside the pictures given. The colors for each sight words are provided. There is also a related sentence for the students to read while coloring.
