2. Spring Sentence Joiners Center Activity
27 sentences to construct and re-read, includes student record sheets too.
Your sentence joiners are aimed to help children practice developing and consolidating reading strategies whilst learning about the features of Spring. Students will be given opportunities to work in pairs to revise sentence work. Students should have a grasp on how to form sentences. Your resource is aimed at first and second grade students.
How to use this resource:
Teachers need to laminate and cut up the half sentences by cutting along the lines. To begin, divide the pack in half and make two single sets i.e. 13 sentences and 14 sentences. This way, students can work in pairs or three for each set and it will be easier for them with less cards to scan through.
Teachers must model to the whole class, how to read through the sentences and choose what end part will fit. Clues are given in the starter sentence e.g. ‘The caterpillar ate’. Children need to see how to read and look for the matching picture.
Demonstrate how to read back to ensure it makes sense and sounds and looks right. Show children how to make an ‘I’m not sure pile’ that they can come back to.
Model how to re-read and edit all sentences at the end by using the self-correction sheet (print two, one for each set). Show your students that they can choose any of the record sheets that you have provided copies of.
Bundle your resource in a zip-bag with student instruction page, sentence joiners self-correction page and a choice of student record sheets.

Your students will gain opportunities to apply information learned as a whole group into guided and independent activities.

Choose the worksheets that will suit your students and bundle as a booklet using the student booklet cover (page 4).
