    1. Spring Expand a Sentence Pack Grammar Activities PDF file

Spring themed sentence work for whole group and then small group or pair instruction.

Help children learn how to work on and expand their sentences to include more detail.

There are 3 steps to this activity that should be implemented in order.

The first step involves modelling from the teacher. The poster that use initially will be a self-correction tool for students and can be a classroom display.

The second step requires students to put sentences in order of least detail to most detail (expanding the sentence each time) and the third

The final step involves students putting each word together to form the sentences seen in the poster.

There are 11 different Spring themed posters that require all 3 steps.

    Posters have between 3-4 sentences.

*** Here is an example of the sentence seen in the image to your left:

    Blue Bird (4 sentences)

    2. Spring Sentence Joiners Center Activity

27 sentences to construct and re-read, includes student record sheets too.

Your sentence joiners are aimed to help children practice developing and consolidating reading strategies whilst learning about the features of Spring. Students will be given opportunities to work in pairs to revise sentence work. Students should have a grasp on how to form sentences. Your resource is aimed at first and second grade students.

    How to use this resource:

Teachers need to laminate and cut up the half sentences by cutting along the lines. To begin, divide the pack in half and make two single sets i.e. 13 sentences and 14 sentences. This way, students can work in pairs or three for each set and it will be easier for them with less cards to scan through.
Teachers must model to the whole class, how to read through the sentences and choose what end part will fit. Clues are given in the starter sentence e.g. ‘The caterpillar ate’. Children need to see how to read and look for the matching picture.

Demonstrate how to read back to ensure it makes sense and sounds and looks right. Show children how to make an ‘I’m not sure pile’ that they can come back to.

Model how to re-read and edit all sentences at the end by using the self-correction sheet (print two, one for each set). Show your students that they can choose any of the record sheets that you have provided copies of.

Bundle your resource in a zip-bag with student instruction page, sentence joiners self-correction page and a choice of student record sheets.

    3. Spring Writing Worksheets Science, Reading and Writing Bundle

Your Spring printables are all ready to go with 80 pages of black and white worksheets for K-1 students. Includes contents page, how to and also a cover page.

~ Please note that this resource focuses on the season of Spring rather than holidays and events like Easter that occur in Spring.

This file will supplement your Spring literacy program as your file aims to help you plan for writing genres, sentence work, reading and response, spelling and handwriting whilst having a science sub-focus. Your students will gain opportunities to apply information learned as a whole group into guided and independent activities.

~ Please download the Spring Worksheets preview for a closer look.

This unit has been set out with text types, reading, spelling and handwriting grouped together. Choose the worksheets that will suit your students and bundle as a booklet using the student booklet cover (page 4). Many of the worksheets will need demonstration and guidance whilst some can be worked on independently, depending on your students’ writing level. A variety of worksheets have been created so that you can use them in your literacy centers or for a science session.
