This resource is set up with 3 levels of developmentally appropriate Spring themed Shapes centers for differentiating instruction in the early childhood classroom. Every class is different, every student is different, so this resource gives you the option of starting out slowly, building on what your students know, and offering a challenge as skills are mastered.
Level 1: Spring Shapes 2-part Puzzles
This beginning level will help students practice identifying basic shapes. There are 5 basic shapes represented; circles, squares, triangles, rectangles& ovals. Students match the shape on the flower to pictures of real-world shapes. All puzzles are self-correcting so there is only one solution. This is a great activity for those just learning basic shapes, it will help them learn and boost confidence.
Level 2: Flower Shapes Match & Clip
This activity builds on the first activity. In this activity we will use many of the same shapes from the first level activity In this activity there are more shapes represented, and a choice of shapes to choose from. Clip the shape that best represents the picture on the card. This is a great activity to introduce new shapes such as heart, star, pentagon, rhombus, and hexagon to name a few!
Level 3: What Belongs to Me? Real-life Shapes Sorting
This center activity builds on the first two. In this activity students will match 4 real life photographs of shapes to shape flowers represented on each mat. This activity uses prior knowledge to help students find the 4 shapes that match and to notice that shapes are all around us!
Find the Center activity that works best for your students.
