Product Description
Build comprehension using these 4 high-interest, nonfiction reading passages that feature one page of informational text and one page of multiple-choice comprehension questions. Topics include April Fools' Day, forms of precipitation, spring animal babies, and horse racing's Triple Crown. The questions include a variety of reading skills and are modeled after the types of questions on standardized reading tests, but with only 3 answer choices. Great for springtime reading!

The thumbnails and preview show the text and question format. The measured reading levels range from 3rd-5th and are "fairly easy to read" or "average" according to the readability indicators. I have 32 years of experience in preparing students for standardized reading testing and in studying these types of tests.

Here is what you get with this resource:
• Cloud Cargo informational text and questions (2 pages)
• Four One Fun informational text and questions (2 pages)
• Offspring Have Sprung informational text and questions (2 pages)
• Three's a Crown informational text and questions (2 pages)
• Answer Key (1 page)
• TOU & Credits (1 page)

Cloud Cargo has a reading level in the upper 4th grade range. Four One Fun, Offspring Have Sprung, and Three's a Crown are in the 5th grade range. There are a lot of racehorse names in the Triple Crown selection. Also, the champion racehorse American Pharoah was registered with a misspelled name, and the Jockey Club would not allow a correction. I used his registered name in the text.

I would recommend that 3rd and some 4th grade teachers plan on doing these orally with students while modeling good reading strategies. Most 5th and 6th graders who are already familiar with this type of testing format should be able to complete these independently.

As an added critical thinking BONUS, have students explain why they think the title of each reading passage was chosen.

I’d appreciate your purchase, your rating, and your feedback.
