Great activity to break up the winter funk and get students excited about spring. Plus, who doesn't like to color!
Students are challenged in this activity not only to follow order of operations to solve and color, but to create their own expressions as well! Each student is given a blank color-by-number in which they are asked to create expressions which solve to reveal a number corresponding to a color in the key. Students then swap with a buddy to solve and color. Feel free to have them swap back and check their partner's picture which could stimulate mathematical discussion.
This activity also includes extension opportunities to challenge the best and the brightest minds with a blank version where they can create their own key, and also a more challenging picture.
Bonus: It also includes another resource I sell singularly which can be used as a teacher example, completely filled out already, and an answer key is included.
