April is National Poetry Month and this Spring Poet-Tree is the perfect time to work on the simple poetry forms of acrostic, rhymes (couplet, triplet, quatrain), color poems, and shape poems to get your students excited about poetry and to do some standards based work. This Spring Poet-Tree is just the thing you need get your students working and having fun at the same time.
The students will learn how to construct an acrostic, rhymes (couplets, triplets, and quatrains), color poems, and shape poems. Students will be given examples of these in a "spring" theme.
They will then write their own examples, all within the same topic of "spring". The topic is rather open, and they can write about what they see around them, it should be accessible to all students in your classroom. To help them along, there is a brainstorming page with many different pictures of "Spring" designed to get their creative juices flowing!
Finally, all of the poems will be written on leaves in the shape of cherry blossoms mounted on a bulletin board, to form a "Poet-Tree"! The students get to be creative here, enjoying time to not only do some art, but write as well.
Makes a great display as well as providing differentiated rigor for each level of student represented in your room.
Classroom tested. Great for a center, independent work, whole class instruction....even homework!
