This product contains eight leveled spring poems rich with sensory detail, and three differentiated worksheets. Cute (but not too cutesy) spring clipart on each page will leave you feeling festive :)
There are so many ways to use these sensory detail stations!
You may choose to set this up like I did, in “stations”.
I picked four of the poems and had students rotate in groups around the room.
At each station, students had to complete a sensory detail worksheet for the poem.
You may also choose to analyze a poem as a whole group, in
differentiated workshop groups, as partner work, or as an individual activity.
The poems in this product are meant to be accessible by grades 6+ but contain a range of difficulty. The included worksheets can be used with ANY poem! Once you have used all the poems in this product, you can select your own or have students find or write a sensory poem of their own to analyze.
The three worksheets included involve varying levels of tracking sensory details. All worksheets require students to list examples from the poem.
1) The first worksheet, meant to be easier for struggling students, has the opportunity for students to sketch the sensory details as well as list examples.
2) The “middle” worksheet, for on-level students, involves listing examples as well as explaining the effect on the poem.
3) The third worksheet, for more advanced learners, has students not only listing examples of sensory detail and explaining the effect, but also thinking about why the author would include the sensory detail.
Enjoy easily differentiating poetry for your students!
