Description

This spring sight word kindergarten resource provides 5 fun activities to solidify reading skills. Developed by an occupational therapist and using the Fry 100 Word List, each springtime task has its own teaching story as well.

For each activity, choose whichever sight words you would like to work on (all 100 Fry words are provided for each activity). Activities are presented with an occupational therapy “twist” (to address fine motor, visual scanning, and visual motor skills) and provide a multi-sensory approach to learning sight words.

Spring activities include:

1- Build a Bird's Nest

Story: “Build a Bird’s Nest” teaches that birds line their nests with sticks, grass, leaves, and feathers.

Activity: Kids pick a card with a stick, grass, leaf, or feather then try to say the accompanying sight word. Next, kids line a bird’s nest!

2- Plant Seeds!

Story: “Plant Seeds” teaches that seeds must be planted, be watered, and have sunlight to grow.

Activity: Kids make “seeds” by drawing small squares on the sight word cards.

3- Leaves Are Growing!

Story: “Leaves Are Growing” teaches that leaves start as buds which grow into leaves in the spring.

Activity: Kids pick a card with a either a big leaf or small leaf then try to say the accompanying sight word. Next, kids color leaves on a tree!

4- A Flower Garden!

Story: “A Flower Garden” shows children that planting beautiful flowers can make a beautiful garden.

Activity: Kids pick a card with a certain colored flower then try to say the accompanying sight word. Next, kids plant a flower garden!

5- Make Worm Words!

Story: “Make Worm Words” teaches children about mud and worms.

Activity: Kids roll play dough into skinny worms then make sight words out of them!
