Categorizing is a skill that gives young learners the ability to organize and structure their world. It helps students problem solve and gives them a basis for processing, remembering, and integrating new information.
In this freebie, students get a chance to think about how words relate to each other. In one activity they are given words to categorize. Activity 2 is a blank chart and students have to come up with words that relate to each other and a partner names the category. And last, students are given a category and need to find 3 words that belong.
This activity will allow for critical and creative thinking, vocabulary, work, and even spelling. Allow students to share their words with classmates.
Use these organizers during Word Work time, as morning work, as partner work, or homework and for any subject!
