Students will build a small working model of a natural spring. Students first read a background about how springs occur in nature and then plan how they will make their model. Students must take "dirty water" and pass it through their natural "spring" model. When they collect water they will test the water to see if it was filtered. (I used coffee + cold water for "dirty water" for the lab.)
Students will compare their results and collect data from other labs. The lab ends with a reflection about their natural spring models. This work aligns with the NGSS and its "science and engineering practices."
