This product is a for a set of 12 word problems with a spring theme. They include addition, subtraction, measurement, and geometry. The problems include regrouping under 100 in both addition and subtraction but not all problems require it.
These problems are created using 2nd grade CC objectives but could easily be used as a review for struggling 3rd graders.
In my own classroom, I have printed out 2 copies of each set. In class, pass out the cards to students. They walk around and find the other student who has the same card number as them. The pair sits down together and solves the problem on the recording sheet. Repeat and share when finished.
I have found that it turns somewhat monotonous word problem practice into an engaging, fun activity.
I have also used them in an independent math center.
This activity is aligned with the 2nd Grade CC Objectives:
CCSS.Math.Content.2.NBT.B.5 Fluently add and subtract within 100 using strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction.
Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions.
Estimate lengths using units of inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.
Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately.
Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
