I use these poetry frames to teach adjectives and verbs. Later we add prepositional phrases or adverbs. For little ones I have the whole class brainstorm adjectives and verbs that complement the topic. I write them on a large board and allow them to choose the items they like. For older students, I have them look up more "grown up" words in a thesaurus to complete the frame. ELL students love doing these and get excited finding new words in the thesaurus. This makes a fun, effective bulletin board as well.
Sample: I like cats.
Cats chase. ...etc.
