This lesson helps students to understand the difference between the literal and figurative meaning of idioms. Students will read themed idioms in sentences and make their best guess at their meaning based upon context clues. Then, students will match the idioms with their true meanings. Students will choose their favorite idiom and illustrate it. This way, it will become clear that idioms must be understood as a whole rather than literally. Finally, students will write an idiom story and employ as many idioms as they can now that they understand how they are used.
