The lesson starts with some hinge questions where children can think about the question posed and then go to the correct place in the classroom - ALWAYS TRUE, SOMETIMES TRUE, NEVER TRUE.
The Notebook explores what mathematical thinking is and explores the idea that Maths isn't about finding the right answer but 'having a go' and exploring.
The lesson can be over two lessons and in the first one, introduce the problem and then allow children to explore and find the answer however they wish. They may use multi-link cubes, squared paper, whiteboard and pen etc.
The next lesson can be more explicitly taught by the teacher looking at how to organise findings in a table.
