Product Description
This bundle includes task cards, word problems and a quiz. Below, you will find all of the descriptions for each product. All of these products are also available for individual purchase as well.

This activity includes 24 task cards along with an answer sheet. It can be used in order to review 8.NS.2 concepts:
Students locate rational and irrational numbers on a number line
Students order and compare rational and irrational numbers
Students also recognize that square roots may be negative and written as - √12
Students also understand the value of square root can be approximated between integers and that non-perfect square roots are irrational

You may use this activity in a variety of ways. I used it as a review activity and placed students in groups of 3-4 students. I encouraged the students to work together to discuss and solve the problems on the task cards.

Square Root Word Problems
This product includes two activities to be used with the Number System. The first assignment is a fifteen minute “Find Someone Who” activity. Students circulate around the room and talk to nine different classmates. The engaging activity has students discussing the concepts from 8.NS.2. Students will find someone who can do or explain what’s asked for in the box (one person per box). The student will ask the person to initial one box and to describe the answer to the problem. The other student will summarize and write what was explained. This activity was a good review before our Number System quiz. Students were active and moving throughout the classroom in order to complete the assignment. I created this 3 x 3 activity based on an example from the book Total Participation Techniques by Pérsida Himmele and William Himmele.

The second activity has students completing three square root problems. The first problem asks students to find the square root of a perfect square number. The second problem has students approximate the square root. The third problem has students changing the units of measure and solving a multi-step square root problem. Lastly, students are asked to create their own square root word problem. A space is provided for students to explain in writing how they solved the problem. At the end of the assignment, students explain the meaning of the solution to a square root problem.
