These 45 task cards focus on addition and subtraction within 20, time to the hour and half hour, skip counting and simple word problems. There are 5 answer cards, correlating to 9 question cards per answer. The 5 answer cards are placed out and children aim to then match each question card with its correct answer card. There is one specific St Patrick’s day question included for each answer card. A recording sheet is included.
To make up the cards, simply print on heavy paper or cardstock, laminate and cut.
Use all the question cards at once, or select a smaller number of cards, to focus on a particular skill, such as simple word problems or time. Mix and match the questions to meet the needs of your learners.
This activity can be completed individually or in small groups. The answer cards could be made to “stand” vertically on a surface using a blob of playdough or a photo holder; the matching question cards can then be placed around them. Question cards could also be “buried” in a sensory bin of rice (pictured), placed around the room or hidden in a part of a playground, park or garden, for a more kinesthetic learning experience. Answer cards may be pinned / pegged to a temporary string “clothesline” with the correct question cards then hung next to them, using clothespins or pegs. Answer cards could also be placed in separate rows of a pocket chart, with the matching question cards then placed beside them.
Another option for "play" could be to place the 5 answer cards on 5 (green) paper plates. As children answer each of the question cards, they place the card on the correct plate. At the conclusion of the activity, there are 5 plates of St Patrick's Day "party food"!
