Resource Prep: Each activiy below includes the prep needed to do activity with students in the description. It may include just copying worksheet or printing, laminating and cutting center games. Each direction to games are located on one of the game sheets for student use.

Resource Description:


St. Patrick’s Day Literature List: Choose books from this list to read to your students about this special day.


St. Patrick’s Writing Station Words: Print and laminate a few colored copies of the St. Patrick's Day Writing Station words for students to use or copy one sheet for each student to put in their writing folder or journal.


Classroom Books:

“I How to Catch a Leprechaun” Classroom Book: Copy cover on cardstock and then copy the student sheet for each student and have them write about how they would catch a leprechaun. Collect each student paper and make classroom book binding or stapling book together.

“I Would Be Lucky” Classroom Book: Copy cover on cardstock and then copy the student sheet for each student and have them write about how they would catch a leprechaun. Collect each student paper and make classroom book binding or stapling book together.


Student Booklet & Worksheets

“How Many Shamrocks” : Copy and assemble each of the “How Many Shamrocks booklets for each students . I have set it up so you can copy the pages back to back them make booklet for each student. Students color the hearts the correct color, practice writing the number and then practice reading the booklet.

Who is a Leprechaun Description Organizer: Have students fill out the circle description organizer, describing a leprechaun.

“My Lucky Day” Story Organizer:
Students organize their “My Lucky Day” story using one of the two story organizers provided.

“My Lucky Day” Story: Students write a story about a lucky day that they have had or what would a lucky day look like using the story sheets provided.


Art Projects:

Pot of Gold Art Project: Copy and assemble Pots of Gold using the directions and template page in unit. Hang pots of gold in hallway or in the classroom for decorations.


Literacy Centers:

Shamrocks Make a Word Game: Children take the flag heart (consonant & consonant blends are provided) and put it in front of a word chunk president to make a word. Children can write words on white boards or use the Make A Word worksheets provided.

Shamrocks Roll It! Read It Short Vowel Sounds: Two game cards with words for Short Vowel Sounds of a, e, i, o & u; Students roll one dice and read the words or sentences in the row they have rolled.

Shamrock & Rainbows Rhyming Word Match Game: Memory Game: Children place the cards face down in rows. They take turns turning two cards over to see if they have matched the two rhyming cards. If it does they keep both cards, if not they turn the cards back over and the next child has a turn. The person who has the most matches wins the game. Match Game: Children can play in partners or by self matching the two rhyming words on the cards.


Math Centers:

Shamrock Number Roll: One Die--Taking turns, children roll 1 die and cover or color a monster in the square above that number of dots. The first person to reach the top of any column wins the game! Two Dice--Taking turns, children roll 2 dice and cover or color a monster in the square above that number of dots. The first person to reach the top of any column wins the game! There is a black and white page for copying.

St. Patrick’s Day Greater Than, Less Than or Equal Clip Game: Children place a paper clip or clothes pin to the correct answer of what symbol: greater than , less than or equal to is correct. Numbers 0-100 are included. Note: Put a little sticker on the back of card in the correct answer space so students can self-correct their answers.

St. Patrick’s Day Roll & Bump Games : Roll two or three number cubes and add those numbers. Cover that space with your marker. You can bump your partner’s color and take their space! If you cover a space with two markers stacked on top of each other, you lock that space and can’t be bumped. The player to use all ten of their markers first is the winner!


Kids have some St.Patrick's Day fun while learning!
