Perfect in celebration of St. Patrick's Day or as a poetry lesson any time of the year, this lesson will have your classroom writing and laughing! In this lesson students will learn the background of limericks and the elements that make up this funny type of poem. Using a detailed Limerick Writing Guide, students will develop their own limericks. Once their limericks fulfill all of the limerick elements, students will write a final copy fit for sharing and displaying.

The student writing guide is also available as a Google Slides resource for students. In addition to the PDF version, students can write their limericks via a file sharing service such as Google Drive, Google Classroom, or in the internet “cloud.” The digital version of the limerick writing lesson is accessible from any computer and allow students to complete their work online.
