St. Patrick's Day Gold Coin Drop and Add
Print and laminate gold coins. You will need enough coins for each child to have the number of the largest sum you would like for them to have. I will give most of my students 10 coins. If you would like for the group to share then you will only need one set of coins. (My groups usually share!) Cut them out on dotted lines and fold on bold lines. Secure together with glue or a staple. (You could also use poker chips and spray paint them gold.) Print and laminate a "pot" mat for each child in the small group. Also print and place in page protectors enough of the colored record sheets for each child in the small group.
Students lay "pot" mats on the floor in front of them. They stand up and hold the coins in the air over the mat. They drop the coins and see how many landed on the map and how many did not. They record it as an addition problem on their record sheet.
