This packet includes several literacy activities to practice important early literacy skills while celebrating St. Patrick's Day!!
On the first page, students cut out letters to make the word leprechaun.
The next activity focuses on sorting words from the -ot word family (in honor of the pot of gold) and the -ock word family (in honor of the shamrock). Students sort pictures into the correct column and find the matching word for each picture.
The next activities focus on number words and color words. On two pages, students match number words and sets of objects to the numeral. On another page, students create a rainbow by reading the color words.
On the next five pages, students practice writing cvc words. Each page has at least one word for each short vowel sound; students say the words slowly to segment the sounds and then write one letter in each shamrock to spell the word!!
On the final activities, students draw and write to respond to prompts related to St. Patrick's Day. There are two versions of these papers; one uses blank lines and the other uses handwriting lines to provide you options for your classroom.
These are independent practice activities that could be used as morning work, classwork, homework, or during literacy centers/stations/Working with Words during Daily 5.
These activities will allow you to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, while working on important literacy skills.
Thanks for looking and happy teaching!!
