K-3 Visual Art Lucky Puppy Puppet or Project with possible ELA, math, Irish culture, and music integration.
Adorable and irresistible Lucky Puppy faces will be created by using a brown lunch bag and multiple colors of white and brown tempera paint applied by using sponge painting techniques, in order to create the fur-like texture for the puppy face, ears, and muzzle. Students will apply decorations and/or decorative patterns to the collar, hat and/or bow to make the artwork more uniquely personalized.
The finished products can be functional by serving a puppet; candy or coin (award) bags; can create a St. Patrick’s Day bulletin board display; or be completed as free standing. Directions are provided for all finishing options. The puppy accessories can be completed with simple construction paper and a black marker (economic), or with embellishing materials such as glitter glue, gems, sequins, pre-cut foam shamrocks, and/or wiggle eyes.
Everyone will feel LUCKY to have these PUPPIES. Varying placement of ears, eyes, and nose will add to the fun and individuality of these puppy characters. If you missed the Puppy Luv for Valentine’s Day, this lesson has been modified to become “Lucky Puppies” for St. Patrick’s Day. Once purchased, the project can be modified by changing accessory colors, for year-round themes and to replicate dog or puppy literature characters.
